I have to sing praises to Dr. Ed Suh and his hygientist Shannon Carroll. We had trauma to my daughters front tooth on a Sunday afternoon and they met us at the office and made her feel so comfortable. What could have been a traumatic experience was met with calmness and reassurance. Thank you so much!!

Why Wake Forest area Dentist provides Onlays

Wake Forest area Dentist provides Onlays

Many cosmetic and general dentists in the Wake Forest area provide treatments such as dental crowns. However, this particular treatment is not recommended in many instances. Dr. Edmond Suh is committed to providing his patients with the most conservative methods of restoration available. For those who have had large areas of decay, this may mean that a dental onlay is placed instead of a dental crown.

Onlays are restorations that are often referred to as “partial crowns.” The benefit of placing an onlay instead of a dental crown is that more of the healthy tooth structure is retained. In order to prepare a tooth for the placement of a full dental crown, the dentist must drill off a large portion of the natural tooth enamel. This cannot be reversed. A crown covers the entire tooth, which means that all sides of the tooth must be filed down. Instead, by using onlays, patients can have a very small portion of the enamel removed in order to place the onlay. This provides a much more conservative method of restoration to address large areas of decay.

Onlays are better for situations in which areas of decay are too large for traditional fillings. Onlays can provide better strength and durability for the tooth and provide long-lasting functionality.

Dr. Edmond Suh of the Wake Forest area believes that everyone is entitled to conservative treatments to maintain the integrity of the natural teeth. This ensures oral health and a beautiful smile without the need for extensive cosmetic work. All of our restorations are made of high quality porcelain for strength, beauty, and durability. We encourage our patients to visit our practice and learn more about our methods of restoration, including inlays and onlays as a wonderful alternative to conventional dental crowns.

If you are located in Wake Forest or a nearby community, and you have considered conservative methods of restoration, contact Dr. Edmond Suh today. We welcome new patients to our state-of-the-art dental practice. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Suh today!
